About the Paul & Carol David Foundation

Serving Children, Students and Families of Stark County and Beyond

The Paul and Carol David Foundation was founded in 1980 as a means to help children by providing scholarships to students and grants to organizations. The Foundation focuses its support so that it benefits the young people of Stark County and their families.

Founders Paul and Carol David both grew up in Massillon, Ohio. Paul’s business, Camelot Music, grew and became a nationally recognized music distributor from the 1960s through the sale of the business in 1993. While the business expanded, Paul and Carol’s philanthropy – giving back to the community that nurtured them – also grew.

This ultimately led to the formation of the Foundation. Today, Jeff David leads the organization as it continually seeks new ways to fulfill their mission to serve the young people of Stark County through scholarships and grants.

David Scholar Program

The David family’s reverence for education was in place long before Paul David’s business, Camelot Music, became a nationally-recognized chain of more than 400 music stores. So when the success of the business allowed the family more opportunities for philanthropy, they established a scholarship for students in their hometown of Massillon, Ohio.

The David Scholar Program began in 1980. Today it is available to all students attending a Stark County high school. The program values a whole-person approach that considers character, need, academic achievement and other factors.

These are represented in a series of personal essays written by the scholarship applicants that are carefully and thoughtfully read by the Foundation’s panel – including co-founder Carol David.

Currently, the value of the scholarship is $7,000 per year – renewable for a total of four years. More than 1,300 scholarships have been awarded, changing the lives of many people who may not have had the opportunity for higher education – or did so with reduced or eliminated debt.

Humanitarian and Philanthropic Causes

The Paul and Carol David Foundation also actively partners with organizations who share our mission and goals to improve the lives of children, students and families in Stark County and beyond.

These organizations have the good of the community in mind. They provide needed services and facilities that contribute to health, wellness, education for the community.

Co-founders Paul and Carol David had long been supporters of the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club of Massillon, Akron Children’s Hospital, Walsh University and many others. Today the David Foundation grant program continues to support these organizations and more.
